Lauren loved kickboxing when she was a teenager. She started the sport because she liked a TV character named Buffy. However, she stopped training for twenty years. Recently, she decided to go back to her old club to see if she could still do it. She wanted to test her body and her skills.
When Lauren arrived at the club, she saw familiar faces. Her old instructor, Alastair, and her coach, Lyn, were still there. This made her feel comfortable. She began to practice her movements again. She did many strikes, like the jab, the cross, and the hook. She also did many different kicks.
Something amazing happened during her practice. It was called muscle memory. Even after twenty years, her body remembered the movements. Her arms and legs moved in the correct patterns. She did not have to think about every step. Her body just knew what to do.
Alastair spoke to Lauren about her experience. He said that her body was not the problem. The real problem was her mind. Many people think they are too old to do sports. They think they cannot do things because they are older. This is a mental barrier. Lauren learned that her mind was setting limits, but her body was still strong. She felt much better after her training. She realized that she can still achieve many things.
